Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will field Sebastian Saavedra in the No. 7 car for the next two rounds of the IndyCar Series, following the departure of Mikhail Aleshin.
SPM confirmed last weekend that it had mutually agreed with Aleshin to bring his IndyCar campaign to a premature end, enabling the Russian to focus on his nascent LMP1 project.
SPM handed Saavedra an outing at the recent Toronto round, in place of Aleshin, and he will climb back into the cockpit at Pocono and Gateway.
Saavedra has started 63 IndyCar races since making his debut in 2010, though has not competed full-time in the championship since 2014.
“It’s another late call to jump in, but I take it with pride after a promising start of our relationship in Toronto,” said the Colombian, who will link up with James Hinchcliffe at the team..
“I’m looking forward to a challenging event as the Tricky Triangle can be, and support Hinchcliffe in his pursuit of championship points.”
SPM has not named Aleshin’s replacement for the final two events at Watkins Glen and Sonoma.
Saavedra has taken four top 10 finishes during his time in the championship.
