Trident driver Giuliano Alesi, son of ex-F1 driver Jean, held off the challenges of ART Grand Prix’s Jack Aitken to score victory in the second Silverstone GP3 race.

The Ferrari-backed youngster took his maiden GP3 win after lining up at the front of the grid, with Dorian Boccolacci failing to take up pole position.

Alesi led the field into the first corner and quickly opened up a small gap, but Aitken started to close in, after jumping Niko Kari at the start and passing Arjun Maini at Village.

However, while there was action further back, Alesi kept his cool at the front of the field, holding off Aitken, Kari and George Russell – who both closed in towards the end of the race.

Alesi crossed the line in first place, with Aitken a close second and Kari picking up his first GP3 podium in third place for Arden.

Race one winner Russell was fourth to extend his championship lead, having made progress early on, ahead of Maini and Alessio Lorandi.

Kevin Joerg was next up, while race one runner-up Anthoine Hubert was eighth after being forced wide by Lorandi.

The race featured an early safety car after Julien Falchero and Steijn Schothorst found themselves in the gravel at Turn 1 after three laps.
