Toyota swept the top two times during Saturday morning's qualifying warm up for the 6 Hours of the Nurburgring.

Having lost out to the Porsche 919 Hybrids on Friday, the TS050s responsed by going over a second quicker than their LMP1 rivals.

Jose Maria Lopez led the way with a time of 1:38.969s behind the wheel of the #7 car, with Kazuki Nakajima slotting 0.427 seconds behind.

The fastest Porsche, driven by Timo Bernhard, could only muster a 1:40.635s marker, although the team still holds the fastest lap of the weekend thanks to Brendon Hartley's Friday afternoon run.

Toyota is aiming for its third pole position of 2017, after clinching the top spot at Silverstone and Le Mans.

In LMP2, Vaillante Rebellion topped the timesheets thanks to a 1:46.017s time from Bruno Senna.

The Brazilian finished two tenths up on Nelson Panciatici in the #35 Signatech Alpine, and a further tenth up on Oliver Jarvis in the Le Mans class-winning Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA.

Fastest in GTE-Pro was the #66 Ford GT of Stefan Mucke, which posted a 1:54.875.

That turned out to be 2.6 seconds under the previous best time of the weekend, set by the #91 Porsche.

Ferrari followed Ford in the FP3 order, although the Italian team ran into trouble late in the session when its #71 488 Italia stopped on track.

Toni Vilander, who is replacing the Formula E-bound Sam Bird this weekend, was due to hand the car over to team-mate Davide Rigon for the final two laps, but the Finn spun at the final corner meaning he was unable to enter the pits. That caused the Ferrari to run out of fuel on its extra lap around the 3.4 mile GP circuit, resulting in local yellow flags.

Vilander still managed to record a 1:56.221, which stood as the second-best time behind Mucke.

Qualifying for the 6 Hours of the Nurburgring is set to take place later today (Saturday, July 15th) at 14:55 local time (CEST).
