NextEV NIO’s Nelson Piquet Jr. says this weekend’s inaugural New York City ePrix will be “one of Formula E’s most important moments so far”.
The all-electric series will race in the famous American city for the first time, at a 1.95-kilometre circuit in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn.
It will feature Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty as its backdrop, and Piquet believes it will be one of Formula E’s most crucial races so far.
“I’m very excited about this race,” he said. “I’ve said before that what Formula E has done to bring races to some truly iconic cities is really impressive.
“To now add New York to this list is amazing; it’s one of the most famous locations in the world. I have no doubts this is going to be one of Formula E’s most important moments so far.”
Looking ahead to the race weekend, with New York being a double-header, Piquet admits the team has to come away with a big collection of points.
“We’ve had some encouraging results, particularly in qualifying this year, so if the track suits us a bit more in Brooklyn, my aim is to be fighting for Super Pole on both days and working to convert that into results in the race,” he explained.
“We need to come away from New York with a really strong points haul.”
