BMW driver Maxime Martin stormed to his first DTM win of the 2017 season in the interrupted second and final race at the Norisring.
Following on from his second-place finish in race one on Saturday, Martin moved into contention for victory in the pitstop phase and at the first restart.
Lucas Auer emerged from the stops in second place, just behind the yet-to-pit Loic Duval. When trying to pass Duval, Auer ran wide and that allowed Martin to sneak into the lead.
From there, he enjoyed a close battle with Auer, at one point losing the lead, only to claim it back with a pass up the inside into the hairpin.
It was a disrupted and action-packed race, which featured a long red flag period after the half-way stage following an accident between Gary Paffett and Mike Rockenfeller.
The crash followed the safety car restart for Robert Wickens and Rene Rast's clash, with Paffett colliding with Jamie Green on the quick run to the hairpin and hitting the wall hard.
His car then slid down the track and into Rockenfeller’s Audi, with both drivers able to get out of their cars. They were taken to hospital for checks but were reported to be OK.
Behind Martin and Auer, Edoardo Mortara won the race to the finish line to pick up third place, narrowly beating Audi’s Mattias Ekstrom and BMW’s Marco Wittmann.
Paul di Resta was sixth, ahead of Augusto Farfus, Green – nursing a slightly damaged car – and polesitter Tom Blomqvist, who dropped back at the start. Timo Glock was 10th.
Wickens led in the early stages but was shuffled back in the pitstops, before his tangle with Rast. Race one winner Bruno Spengler dropped back due to a puncture and was 12th.
