Neuville leads close three-way Rally Poland battle

Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville leads a close scrap for overall honours following the conclusion of Friday’s running at Rally Poland.

Neuville holds a 1.3 second advantage over M-Sport rival Ott Tänak at the end of SS10, having snatched the lead at the end of SS9 from the Estonian.

Toyota’s Jari-Matti Latvala held a slender advantage following the morning loop, held in wet conditions, but slipped to third across the remainder of the day.

Latvala, though, is still firmly in contention, sitting just 6.6s behind Neuville.

Reigning World Champion Sébastien Ogier was in the hunt during the morning, but struggled as conditions dried, his predicament exacerbated by running first on the road.

Ogier holds fourth position, over half a minute behind Neuville, and is under increasing pressure from Hyundai’s Hayden Paddon.

Paddon’s team-mate, Dani Sordo, sits sixth, the leading sextuplet all within a minute of leader Neuville.

Teemu Suninen and Juho Hanninen finished the day seventh and eighth respectively, with Stéphane Lefebvre ninth on a dismal rally for Citroen.

A driveshaft problem slowed Craig Breen, leaving him adrift further down the leaderboard, while Andreas Mikkelsen, in for the benched Kris Meeke, is only 12th, behind Mads Ostberg and Elfyn Evans.
