Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville finished ahead of Ott Tanak to set the pace in a wet Rally Poland shakedown on Thursday morning.
The Belgian driver put in his quickest time on his final run through the 4.90km test, at the wheel of his i20 Coupe WRC.
He finished just two tenths clear of Tanak, who claimed his maiden World Rally Championship win at the last round in Italy.
Neuville’s team-mate Hayden Paddon was 0.4s further back in third place, in what was a muddy shakedown after overnight rain.
Following the first run, Neuville was fastest before Jari-Matti Latvala topped the second pass for Toyota. But all the leading drivers set their best times at the final attempt.
M-Sport’s Sebastien Ogier, Latvala and Hyundai’s Dani Sordo completed the top six, ahead of Toyota’s Esapekka Lappi.
Teemu Suninen is making his WRC debut and completed five runs to finish joint 10th, alongside the returning Andreas Mikkelsen – the quickest Citroen driver.
