Sébastien Buemi and Nick Heidfeld finished Saturday’s two practice sessions at the top of the timesheets, ahead of the first race of the weekend in Berlin.
Renault e.dams driver and championship leader Buemi led a team 1-2 in the opening 45-minute session, with a best time of 1:08.151 on the new Tempelhofring layout.
Nicolas Prost was second, just under six tenths behind Buemi, with Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist in third place.
The DS Virgin Racing duo of José María López and Sam Bird were fourth and fifth respectively, ahead of Techeetah’s Jean-Éric Vergne and the Jaguar of Mitch Evans – who stopped on track and caused a brief red flag.
Championship frontrunner Lucas di Grassi was ninth, while Nelson Piquet Jr was 11th despite colliding with the wall.
New Techeetah recruit Stephane Sarrazin was 13th and his Venturi replacement Tom Dillmann finished down in 19th after a gearbox issue with one of his cars.
Heidfeld was eighth in FP1, but rose to the top of the timesheets in the second session, which lasted 30 minutes.
His 1:08.070 was an unofficial lap record at the Berlin track and he led team-mate Rosenqvist by just 0.022 seconds, with Maro Engel third for Venturi.
Di Grassi, Sarrazin and Lopez were next up, ahead of Bird and Vergne. Buemi found himself ninth, just ahead of NextEV NIO’s Oliver Turvey.
