Ganassi IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan will replace the injured Sébastien Bourdais in the No.68 Ford GT at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

The 2013 Indianapolis 500 champion will join regulars Dirk Muller and Joey Hand in the No.68 Ford GTE Pro entry, which won the class at the 2016 race.

Kanaan already has experience in the car, having driven for one of the Ganassi Ford GT entries at the Daytona 24 Hours earlier in the year.

Bourdais suffered hip and pelvic fractures in a crash during qualifying for the Indy 500 earlier this month, while driving for Dale Coyne Racing.

The FIA World Endurance Championship’s famous trip to the iconic Le Mans circuit takes place from June 17/18, and it will be Kanaan’s first time racing at the 24-hour race.

“It’s an honor to be named a part of the Ford GT lineup for Ford Chip Ganassi Racing at the Le Mans 24,” he said.

“It’s obviously an unfortunate situation that brought us to this point with Sébastien’s injuries, but I’m going to do my best to take his place and try to help win this amazing race for the team again this year.

“This race has definitely been on my bucket list for a long time, so I’m thankful that Chip and our partners at Ford have given me this opportunity.”
