Formula E championship rivals Sébastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi set the pace in first and second practice for the Paris ePrix.

Renault e.dams driver Buemi was fastest in an eventful first practice session of the day, although he was the only driver to try a 200kW full power lap.

The Swiss racer put in a 1:01.998 to end the 45-minute practice one at the top of the timesheets, seven tenths clear of DS Virgin Racing’s José María López.

Techeetah’s Jean-Éric Vergne was third, over one second off Buemi’s best time, with di Grassi and Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist completing the top five.

Mike Conway makes his Formula E return with Faraday Future Dragon Racing and he was seventh, replacing Loïc Duval – who is racing in DTM.

Maro Engel is also competing in the German touring car championship, with Tom Dillmann stepping in at Venturi to make his series debut. He was 17th quickest.

Abt Audi Sport’s di Grassi was fastest in the 30-minute second practice with a 1:01.359, two tenths clear of López and Buemi.

Drivers continued to struggle under braking during the session, with numerous trips down escape roads and run-off areas.

Daniel Abt was fourth fastest, with Sam Bird in fifth – bouncing back from his issues early in FP1. Rosenqvist was sixth, ahead of Nicolas Prost.

Oliver Turvey was eighth, the NextEV driver picking up a 10-place grid penalty for the Paris ePrix due to powertrain changes.
