Graham Rahal expecting ‘breakthrough of the season’ at INDYCAR Grand Prix

Graham Rahal is expecting a “breakthrough” at the INDYCAR Grand Prix around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, after a slightly uncompetitive start to the 2017 season.

After the first four races of the season Rahal has only managed to finish in the top ten once, as well as being involved in the multi-car incident at the start of the Phoenix Grand Prix last time out.

Despite the far from perfect start to the season, Rahal is adamant that a “breakthrough” is on the horizon at the INDYCAR Grand Prix.

“We feel like this is a place that we've had a lot of success,” explained Rahal.

“It's a track that I really love and it's an environment that I love and feed off of, so I feel like the grand prix is going to be our breakthrough of the season, so far. 

“We've worked very hard for this, worked hard focusing on the month of May in particular. 

“The guys deserve a good result. 

“We have focused a lot of energy on making sure we have a good one. 

“We feel like the car should be pretty competitive.

Last season Rahal qualified exceptionally well for the INDYCAR Grand Prix, before having his time disallowed for failing to meet the minimum car weight regulations during the post-qualifying inspections.

This forced to Rahal to start from the back of the grid, however he persevered and finished a respectable P4.

"Last year was obviously disappointing because we got the qualifying penalty,” continued Rahal. 

“It was our best road course qualifying in years. 

“It would have been nice to start third, be right up front, be able to attack Simon Pagenaud, as even he said before the race his main concern going into race day was me. 

“We have struggled at times this year, but I feel like, out of the box, we should be there, competitive-wise, at the grand prix and be able to attack pretty good.”
