McLaren's Fernando Alonso insists he won't be quitting Formula 1 or McLaren mid-season following speculative comments from former driver Mark Webber.
Alonso has grown increasingly frustrated with McLaren's engine partner Honda, with its power unit severely lacking performance and reliability despite a complete redesign this season, done in an effort to catch rivals Renault, Ferrari and Mercedes.
At present, that hasn't paid off, with estimates suggesting the redesigned unit is actually less powerful than its predecessor run during the 2016 campaign, leading Webber to question whether or not Alonso can keep up his motivation until the end of the year.
"Fernando might not do the whole year, you never know. He's frustrated like hell," Webber said of the two-time champion.
When asked about the comments, Alonso replied: "No, definitely not true.
"It's normal from the outside for drivers to speak. If one ex-driver or motorbike rider speaks to the media then they [are asked] one question about Alonso, and [that is] how the situation is.
"Everyone seems [to be] quite close to me and [say] I have a depression! But it's not like that," he added.
Alonso insists he is delivering the maximum and is performing better than ever, with his results often outperforming the capabilities of the car.
"In Formula 1, I'm delivering at my best, I'm more prepared than ever.
"The team is not very competitive now and there is not much we can do from one day to another. At the same time, I think that the team is expecting an extra job from me, an extra result.
"We did that in Australia, where the predictions and simulations said we were last and we were 10th. In China, if the predictions say we are last, then hopefully [I] will be in the points."
