Luca di Montezemolo has repeated his criticism of the new teams, this time saying they shouldn’t be allowed to participate.
It isn’t the first time the Ferrari chairman has slammed the new teams for being too slow. In June of this year, he branded them a ‘joke’ and in early 2010 he called for F1 to be renamed Formula 3.
This latest jibe at the new teams comes after his driver, Fernando Alonso, was held up in the Canadian GP, damaging his chances of taking victory.
“Cars who perform at GP2-level should not be allowed to participate in F1 races because they are supposed to race on Sunday mornings [before F1],” Gazzetta dello Sport quote the 62-year-old as saying.
“Our car’s race pace was good enough for victory. Let’s hope that, in the future, there won’t be more mistakes in lapping cars that put us at a disadvantage, because we’ve already gone through enough of that.”
His comments come at a time when Di Montezemolo has repeatedly called for the top teams to be allowed to run three cars, rather than inviting new teams to compete.
