Motopark has confirmed that it has retained Joel Eriksson for the 2017 European Formula 3 championship.
BMW-backed Eriksson placed fifth in his rookie campaign last year, with a victory at Spa-Francorchamps, and also triumphed at the prestigious F3 Masters race at Zandvoort.
Eriksson, younger brother of former GP2 racer Jimmy, is the first driver confirmed for Motopark’s 2017 roster.
“I learned so much last season, enjoyed the format, and managed to achieve my target of winning the rookie title,” he said.
“It was a good first year, and based on the results we achieved and the pace we had – especially during the second half of the season – I’ll be heading into 2017 with the aim of winning the championship.
“It will be extremely tough with a lot of strong teams and drivers already lined up, but it’s not supposed to be easy.”
Eriksson is the 11th confirmed participant for this year’s championship, which will begin at Silverstone in April.
Formula 3’s dominant outfit, Prema, has recruited Callum Ilott, Mick Schumacher and Ferrari protégé Guan Yu Zhou, while ex-Prema racer Ralf Aron has joined Hitech, along with GP3 convert Jake Hughes and Force India tester Nikita Mazepin.
Jehan Daruvala, also on Force India’s books, Ferdinand Habsburg and Lando Norris will front Carlin’s charge, with David Beckmann currently the only signing for Van Amersfoort.
