Sebastian Vettel beat Max Verstappen to the fastest time in third and final practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Despite different conditions to those the drivers will experience in qualifying and the race, it was a busy session with teams going for a number of different approaches.

A late qualifying simulation on the ultra-soft tyre saw Vettel end the session fastest with a 1m40.775, with his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen going third in the final moments.

Max Verstappen was second for Red Bull Racing, just under one and a half tenths behind Vettel.

Mercedes looked to be focusing on race preparation and both drivers set their ultra-soft times earlier in the session, with Lewis Hamilton fourth and Nico Rosberg fifth.

Daniel Ricciardo ended FP3 sixth, one second off the pace, with Sergio Perez just beating team-mate Nico Hulkenberg – who was delayed by a fuel system problem – to seventh for Force India.

Valtteri Bottas was ninth, with Esteban Gutierrez an encouraging 10th. Fernando Alonso was 11th at the wheel of his McLaren.

It was an eventful session, with a couple of spins (for the likes of Felipe Massa and Carlos Sainz Jr.) and off-track excursions.

Jenson Button failed to set a timed lap until half-way through the session, finishing behind fellow Brit Jolyon Palmer in 13th.

Toro Rosso put in limited running once again, after Daniil Kvyat reported an early vibration and Sainz suffered a spin. They were 21st and 18th respectively.
