Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene says the team “paid a heavy price” for its qualifying positions at the United States Grand Prix.
Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel lined up fifth and sixth on the grid for the race at the Circuit of the Americas, behind the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers.
Raikkonen enjoyed a strong start but retired after a problem at his second pit stop, while Vettel finished a distant fourth.
Arrivabene admitted Ferrari expected a better result at the US GP, feeling a podium was possible on Sunday.
“Obviously, we had hoped for a better result this weekend,” he said after the race at COTA.
“Once again, though, we paid a heavy price for our qualifying position. In the race, our pace was definitely better than yesterday [Saturday], and we could have fought for a podium finish.
“Now we move to Mexico straight away, and we will put our maximum effort and concentration into the next racing weekend.”
