Cal Crutchlow claimed the second MotoGP win of his career in the Australian Grand Prix, after Marc Marquez crashed out of the lead.
The LCR Honda rider quickly moved up to second place in the early stages of the race, with newly-crowned champion Marquez almost three seconds clear out front.
Crutchlow started to close the gap to the leading Honda rider but just as Marquez responded, he crashed at Turn 4 before the half-way mark.
Having taken over first place, Crutchlow proved to be untouchable and claimed his second win of the 2016 season. Earlier in the year at Brno he ended a 35-year run without a British winner.
Valentino Rossi battled from 15th place to finish in second, 4.2 seconds behind Crutchlow. He had made rapid progress in the early stages and moved into the runner-up spot just before Marquez’s crash.
It was a strong recovery from the Yamaha rider at Phillip Island after his worst qualifying result in six years.
Maverick Vinales bounced back from a disappointing 13th on the grid to move past Andrea Dovizioso and Aleix Espargaro to finish third.
Ducati rider Dovizioso held onto fourth, while Espargaro crashed out at Turn 4. Early leader Pol Espargaro claimed fifth, ahead of a distant Jorge Lorenzo.
Scott Redding led a fierce midfield battle to finish seventh, ahead of Bradley Smith, Danilo Petrucci and Jack Miller.
