Valtteri Bottas ‘wants to commit’ to Williams for 2017 says manager

Valtteri Bottas is keen to secure another year with the Williams team according to his manager, Didier Coton, and expects the team will be happy to do so given what they've achieved together.

It comes as Williams are reviewing their line-up of Bottas and Felipe Massa – which has remained stable for the past three seasons – with speculation they could opt for a completely new driver pairing.

Bottas, who joined the team in 2013 alongside Pastor Maldonado, has secured nine podium finishes and helped the team achieve third in the standings last season, their best result since 2003 when they partnered with BMW and finished second.

"Valtteri has been very adamant about his commitment towards Williams since the beginning of this season, especially because of the change in the regulations for next year, and the trust he has in them," Coton told Autosport.

"There is a bit of an unfinished story between those two, and he wants to commit as much as he can to the team. He is in F1 to win, the team, of course, has the same objective, and both are working hard to achieve it. Williams is a great team, with a lot of potential.

"They have demonstrated in the past two years what they can do, and there is more to come. And if I look at Valtteri's commitment towards the team, the team should be happy to have him."

Speculation has linked Jenson Button with a return to the team, if McLaren opt to promote Stoffel Vandoorne alongside Fernando Alonso next year.
