Nicolas Prost has claimed his second win in the Formula E series after dominating the first London ePrix at Battersea Park.

The Frenchman eked out a comfortable lead in the first half of the race, extending his advantage through the pitstop phase. But the gap to the chasing Bruno Senna was cut after an incident on lap 20.

Daniel Abt and Robin Frijns were battling hard for position but the two collided, with Abt hitting the wall and collecting Frijns again as he crossed the circuit.

Prost had a strong restart and led the field home to claim victory, with Senna in second place for Mahindra to score his first podium in the all-electric championship.

A late crash for Oliver Turvey promoted Jean-Eric Vergne to third place, the DS Virgin Racing driver spending a considerable amount of time behind the NEXTEV car before the accident.

Championship contenders Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi gradually moved up the order as the race progressed and found themselves battling for position after the safety car period.

Buemi attempted a move several times but couldn’t find a way through. They both passed Sam Bird late on, with Buemi even making contact with the DS Virgin car on the last lap.

Di Grassi finished fourth despite front wing damage to extend his championship lead to three points, with Buemi in fifth and Antonio Felix da Costa coming from 14th to sixth.

Bird dropped down to seventh on the last lap in the first of his home races, ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Jerome d’Ambrosio. Mike Conway completed the top 10 for Venturi.

Simona de Silvestro suffered a lonely start to the race but made progress in the second half to finish 11th, with Stephane Sarrazin, Ma Qing Hua and Nelson Piquet Jr – who took fastest lap – completing the finishers.

Turvey’s crash late on cost him a potential podium, with Loic Duval also failing to finish and having to watch from the sidelines alongside Abt and Frijns.
