IndyCar’s season finale from Laguna Seca was a wild and chaotic affair, with eight cautions interrupting the 95-lap event.

Scott Dixon was one driver among many that was involved in an incident early in the day, and even earned a penalty for his part, but he worked his way back through the field to claim his third win of the year.

Scott McLaughlin stood on the second step of the podium after his own crash early in the race, and the championship winner Alex Palou crossed the line in third.

The chaotic race was unexpected, in part because last year’s race at Laguna Seca only had one stoppage. Aggressive driving and additional stack-ups on the restart led to a day that was too eventful for many competitors.

Drivers and teams will have a busy off season, with new hybrid engine regulations coming next year and many days of testing on the cards.
