Nobuharu Matsushita dominates Monaco sprint race to take second GP2 win

ART's Nobuharu Matsushita took a commanding victory in Monaco after starting the 30-lap sprint race on reverse-grid pole.

The former Japanse F3 champion was more than thirteen seconds ahead of next-best Marvin Kirchoefer, whom he had to fight off at the first corner. With the importance of track position never moreso than in Monaco, the Saint Devote battle was crucial, and Matshushita then set about building an unassailable lead.

So difficult was overtaking that only one change occurred within the top eight grid positions, as feature race runner-up Norman Nato got past 2014 GP3 champion Alex Lynn to seize sixth place.

It was not the same race of attrition witnessed in yesterday's feature race, with just three retirements. However, one noteable non-finisher was Matsushita's team mate Sergey Sirotkin, whose ART ground to a halt at Massenet, dealing a huge blow to his title fight aspirations.

Sergio Canamasas appeared to be the only driver to get a real grasp of overtaking in the principality, and the Spaniard managed to surge past Pierre Gasly, Gustav Malja and Daniel de Jong before the race was done, eventually finishing tenth.

Joining Matshushita and Kirchoefer on the podium was Ferrari development driver Raffaele Marciello. Mitch Evans, Alex Lynn, Norman Nato, Oliver Rowland, and yesterday's race winner Artem Markelov completed the points, with Arthur Pic and Canamasas completing the top ten.
