A decision as to whether the United States Grand Prix will take place this season will be made before the end of February, Circuit of the Americas chairman Bobby Epstein has said.
The race, whilst listed on the 2016 calendar, was marked as subject to confirmation after its government funding was cut by 20 per cent from $25 million (£17.5m) to $19m (£13.3m), due to the way in which its economic impact on the local area is calculated.
The news led Epstein to declare the race "screwed", as not only does the funding hit them hard, but a washed-out '15 event led many fans to remain at home, costing the circuit millions in potential revenue.
Formula 1's Bernie Ecclestone said the race would "absolutely" happen, but Epstein says things aren't that clear and a final decision would be made within the next month.
"We all want it to happen, and usually when that's the case, things get done," he told Autosport.
"I certainly can't confirm anything at this point, but for sure there will be something within the next 30 days," he added. "We'll have an answer definitely before the end of February."
