Ferrari have revealed that the chassis used by Fernando Alonso in qualifying for the Monaco GP, is beyond repair after the Spaniard hit the barriers at turn three.
A momentary lapse of concentration caused Alonso to misjudge the corner, leading to his F10 firmly planting itself in the Armco. Whilst the damage looked fairly unsubstantial, closer inspection revealed heavy damage to the chassis.
A statement on the team’s website identifies chassis – number 283 – as beyond repair.
Alonso used the test chassis for the Monaco GP, but Ferrari haven’t yet decided on which chassis Felipe Massa or Alonso will use in Turkey.
The team are also looking at introducing a new F-duct system as their current has come under fire for how it’s operated. Drivers were seen driving with one hand, sometimes with none, as they use the back of their hand to block the airflow. Whereas the McLaren drivers use their knee.
“Turkey should see the debut of an evolution of the management system of the blown rear wing…” the statement said.
