Toro Rosso working 24/7 to be ready for opening test

Toro Rosso are so pushed for time to be ready for the first test of the season in February, team principal Franz Tost has had to enforce strict hours which will see their factory operating 24 hours a day.

The Italian outfit found itself without an engine as sister team Red Bull fell out with supplier Renault, leaving both teams with uncertain futures.

However with Red Bull agreeing a revised deal with Renault and Toro Rosso going back to its former partner, Ferrari, it has found itself in a mad rush to ready itself for 2016.

Tost is hoping the long hours will pay off and stressed it was the first time they’ve had to impose such emergency measures.

“We re-planned the manufacturing processes and decided to go for a three-shift, across seven days, 24 hours to be ready for the first test,” he told Autosport.

“From Toro Rosso’s side, we can organise everything in the best possible way. Our main problem is other suppliers and their Christmas holidays. Most of them are closed for a minimum of 10 days and this will make it tough for us.

“We’ve never had to enforce a 24-hour a day shift pattern for this long before. In February, the last days before you finish the car, you sometimes have those days but it’s maybe normal for only one or two days.

“But we will have this system in place now for December, January and half of February, so two and a half months,” he added. “We have brought in a high number of contractors just for this short period to do this.”
