IndyCar extends contract with Barber through 2027

Zoom Motorsports, the promoter of Barber Motorsports Park, has announced an extension with the NTT IndyCar Series that will see the annual event continue for years to come.

The new contract extends through the 2027 season, ensuring at least another four races will be run on the popular course after this weekend’s event.

Barber is nestled in the hills near Birmingham, Alabama, and provides a bevy of elevation changes and sweeping corners.

Those characteristics make it very reminiscent of flowing courses that are common in Europe, and also make it a favorite among nearly every driver who races on it.

“We are pleased the NTT IndyCar Series will return to Barber Motorsports Park for years to come,” Penske Entertainment President and CEO Mark Miles said.

“For the last 13 years, Barber has been an ideal host and the perfect Southeastern venue to showcase IndyCar’s bold and brash personality and compelling action. With its unique layout and dramatic features, this beautiful facility is a favorite with our fans and within our paddock.

“We look forward to growing this meaningful partnership with more thrilling racing and iconic moments.”

Barber Motorsports Park opened in 2003 and was originally designed to host motorcycle events, which is the main interest of the track’s owner George Barber.

IndyCar was first invited to the track in 2010, and has been holding an event here every year since barring 2020 when COVID canceled the event.

Team Penske has been the most successful team during that time, winning six of the 12 events held so far.

The track has also been the site of multiple driver’s first IndyCar win, including Josef Newgarden in 2015 and Alex Palou in 2021.
