Kimi Raikkonen’s future at Ferrari remains an unknown, with Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene refusing to be drawn on the subject at the British Grand Prix.
The Finn endured a mixed weekend, which started with him out-qualifying team-mate Sebastian Vettel. But when rain arrived during the race, the wrong call by Raikkonen saw him pit too early for intermediate tyres, dropping him to eighth.
Vettel meanwhile went on to score his sixth podium in nine races, compared to Raikkonen’s one which came at the Bahrain GP in April.
Arrivabene highlighted the decision to pit, which ultimately cost the team a handful of points, was Raikkonen’s call.
“It is obvious that in the case of rain, the driver works together with the team to make the call,” he explained.
“What happened with Kimi is clear, as it is the driver who has to judge how the car is working on the track – Kimi decided to come in early, which was a wrong decision.”
Putting the blame aside, Arrivabene refused to discuss Raikkonen’s future at the team which is known to be under threat following lacklustre performances.
“I do not want to talk about Kimi’s future,” he added.
“There are still ten races to go and when the time comes, we will make a decision if we have to. Kimi knows what we expect of him.
“What I want now is for Kimi to remain calm so he can do his job.”
