Latvia is set to join the World Rally Championship in 2024 as the Tet Rally Latvia for the first time in its history.

Latvia has been a long-time venue in the European Rally Championship with the promotion to the world calendar seen as an example of the WRC Promoter’s target to keep one slot in the calendar open for events that it feels can grow further on a bigger stage.

The rally has also garnered a reputation for being one of the most challenging rallies in Europe, utilising fast gravel roads, the crews will need to be on their best form as they navigate the stages . The new venue is due to cover the cities of Rīga and Liepāja as well as the regions of Talsi, Tukums, Kuldīga, and Dienvidkurzeme.

“This is a dream come true moment. Our work that started many years ago, has finally concluded with a clear pathway for Latvia to host a WRC event in 2024,” said Tet Rally Latvia director Raimonds Strokšs.

“For RA Events as an event organiser, this is a tremendous milestone that carries huge responsibility with it. But we have such reliable partners in the Latvian Government, our rally city Liepāja, our capital city Rīga, and our general sponsor Tet – plus many more. Behind them, there is an even broader team of enthusiastic people, with whom we can pull this off and are ready to tackle all the challenges that lay ahead of us.”

The new round doesn’t have a concrete set of dates yet and is still subject to approval by the World Motorsports Council.
