The British Touring Car Championship star is set to stay in the series with his squad, despite rumours linking him to an exit.
2026 has been an incredible year for Sutton, perhaps even the greatest we have seen from a driver in the series, including the largest winning margin in a race (19 seconds) since Alain Menu in 1999.
Starting the season with three victories and three P2s from the opening rounds at Donington National and Brands Indy, the NAPA peddler kept a streak of winning each weekend until August’s return to Donington Park.
Even then, a pair of P2s did no harm in holding his advantage in the standings. And, by that point, it had long seemed academic.
A suffering season for Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram was more than punished, with Sutton’s only non-finish to date coming at Croft – where he had scored P2 and P1 in the first two races.
All-in-all, it paints a picture of something spectacular from the NAPA man and his squad. He would have clinched the record-breaking fifth with a P11 finish at Silverstone National’s Race 1, but instead opted to let Chris Smiley through and storm through the pack to win from P12 in Race 2.
Having claimed his record-breaking fifth Drivers’ title at Silverstone, plenty were expecting Brands Hatch GP to be the last time Sutton would be seen in a NAPA Racing UK Ford – at least for now.
However, breaking a streak of two retirements in two days at Brands Hatch, Sutton and NAPA have announced a five-year extension to his deal.
“I’m over the moon to agree a new contract to continue my journey in the British Touring Car Championship for the next five years,” said Sutton.
“Over the last five years, we’ve had plenty of success, broken records, and made history together. I’m equally excited about what the future holds, to see what I can go on to achieve in my career and also this incredible journey with the team and its partners.
“Continuity is so important in the BTCC, and I already know I have the best team behind me, all chasing the same end goal. So, let’s see what milestone we can get next!
“Having my future guaranteed this early gives me the perfect platform to have a strong winter programme and to then come back next season in the best way possible, this championship doesn’t stand still, and I don’t plan to either.”
