Marco Bezzecchi made a statement as the rider to beat in qualifying by setting the pace in the final Indonesian MotoGP practice session.
The session was red flagged after a highside for Toprak Razgatlioglu, and although the Turkish rider walked away holding his collarbone he returned to track action.
After the riders returned to the track, it was once again the Aprilia riders who took charge, with Bezzecchi leading the way with a 1:29.560s lap time.
Bezzecchi would remain the fastest rider at the flag, with Raul Fernandez his nearest challenger in second 0.174s further behind.
Marc Marquez improved late on to complete the top three, as Fabio Di Giannantonio took fourth over championship leader Jorge Martin in fifth.
Pedro Acosta was just over half a second behind Bezzecchi’s best laptime in sixth, with Ai Ogura the fastest of the riders going through Q1 in seventh.
The Gresini riders were eighth and 10th respectively as Fermin Aldeguer got ahead of Alex Marquez, while Francesco Bagnaia slotted in between the pair in ninth place.
Alex Rins was top Yamaha in 11th ahead of Enea Bastianini in 12th and Fabio Quartararo in 13th, with Franco Morbidelli taking the flag in 14th.
Johann Zarco was marginally quicker than LCR Honda team-mate Diogo Moreira as the pair took 15th and 16th over Luca Marini.
Brad Binder finished 18th, meanwhile Razgatlioglu confirmed he had dislocated and popped back in his shoulder in the crash, briefly returning to the track as he took 19th.
Maverick Vinales took 20th ahead of Jack Miller and Aleix Espargaro, who rounded out the standings in 21st and 22nd.
