Fabio Quartararo has signed a deal to join Honda for the 2027 MotoGP season, which will bring an end to his partnership with Yamaha.

He has signed a two-year contract with Honda and will partner either new signing David Alonso or current MotoGP rookie Diogo Moreira.

Quartararo delivered Yamaha its most recent riders’ title in 2021, becoming the manufacturer’s first MotoGP World Champion since Jorge Lorenzo in 2015, taking 11 victories and 21 podiums in their eight-year partnership.

However, after enduring a difficult period with Yamaha and failing to win a Grand Prix since 2022, the 27-year-old has opted for a fresh challenge with Honda ahead of MotoGP’s new technical era in 2027.

Honda has shown significant signs of progress following its competitive struggles in 2024, improving from Concession Rank D to Concession Rank C for the 2026 season.

“Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) are pleased to announce the signing of Fabio Quartararo for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP World Championship seasons,” the team’s press release read.

“Quartararo will race for the factory Honda HRC team as the 850cc era of MotoGP begins from 2027. The 27-year-old joined the premier class in 2019 after a record-breaking run in the FIM CEV Moto3 International Championship and four competitive seasons in the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships.

“As a rookie in the premier class, Quartararo made his presence known and scored pole position in just his fourth race with a total of six poles and seven podiums in 2019.

“In 2021 he would take the MotoGP World Championship title, battling to second the following year. The French rider has taken a total of 11 wins, 32 podiums and 21 poles to date in the premier class.”
