Bavarian marque BMW is set to continue its WorldSBK programme beyond the 2026 season.
Since joining WorldSBK in 2009, BMW has experienced periods as both a factory and satellite-backed entrant before linking up with Shaun Muir Racing in 2019.
Since the partnership was formed, BMW and Shaun Muir Racing have enjoyed unprecedented success, securing two Riders’ titles with Toprak Razgatlioglu in 2024 and 2025.
Despite its recent success, BMW had yet to formulate a long-term plan for the future, with its current WorldSBK commitment due to expire at the end of the 2026 season.
With Razgatlioglu having seized his MotoGP opportunity, BMW’s signings of Miguel Oliveira and Danilo Petrucci for an all-new rider line-up suggested a longer-term commitment to the production-based championship.
The German automotive giant has revealed it is in a “discussion phase” regarding an extension of its WorldSBK programme.
“At this point, we’re still in the discussion phase, so we won’t go into details,” shared BMW Motorrad Motorsport chief Sven Blusch to GPone.
“It will definitely be a long-term agreement. We can finally begin the actual negotiations, and we’re talking about several years.
“We don’t want to say yet whether it will be two, three, or four years, but the most important thing is the long-term vision.
“Motorsport is fundamental to our brand and to BMW’s DNA, and this has been confirmed internally.
“We’re all very happy to be able to plan for the future in this way.”
