Ferrari will use at least 3 jokers to upgrade its 499P for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship, the team has confirmed.

Speaking to media, including MotorsportWeek, in a briefing at Le Mans, Ferdinando Cannizzo explained about the upgrades.

“We’ve put together a series of jokers. Every system is integrated with the other. I’ll give you an example, if if we change the rear suspension of our car, it impacts the gear change, it impacts the connection with the engine, it impacts a lot of other things, on the aerodynamics, so it seemed correct to attack the various areas of the car in an integrated way, “

Cannizzo confirmed that “3 or 4” or “between 2 and 4” jokers would be used, and that this would be based on the same homologation 499P that Ferrari have raced since 2023. The 499P has been very successful , with 3 wins at Le Mans, a 100% win record in the French endurance classic, plus the manufacturers and drivers’ championships last year, since 2023.

Ferrari have so far used a single joker on the 499P, to upgrade the brake cooling, in 2024. This gives a further 4 to use before the end of 2027, when they will get an extra 2 to use for 2028 and 2029.

Unlike many rival teams, Ferrari didn’t make any upgrades to its car for 2026, preferring to optimise water it had before the now-announced major 2027 update.

‘Instead of playing jokers one at a time, instead we have brought them together,” he finished.
