Fresh off victory at Snetterton, Gordon Shedden wants another strong British Touring Car Championship weekend at Oulton Park.
And based off his past, he could well add to his Snetterton success sooner than anyone would have anticipated.
The MB Motorsport man has notched seven BTCC victories around the 2.26-mile circuit, plus a handful more podiums, including his first victory in 2006.
“Oulton Park’s a circuit with plenty of fond memories for me,” he told BTCC media.
“It’s where I won my first overall BTCC race back in 2006. I’ve added a few more since then, including one last year in the Corolla, so we know the car is capable too.
If we execute the weekend well, and put it all together, then we should be in a good place.”
Saturday improvement key for Gordon Shedden and MB Motorsport
Despite Shedden’s sensational victory in Race 3 at Snetterton, it was actually a tricky weekend for his squad.
Most of their struggles owed to a lack of pace in qualifying, with teammate Árón Taylor-Smith suffering towards the back through the weekend.
Shedden fared slightly better, recovering a below average qualifying to P7 in Race 2. Shedden’s effort was rewarded with pole for reverse-grid Race 3, which he held until the flag.
With the Corolla expected to be competitive in Cheshire, the Scot knows that Saturday improvement is vital to MB Motorsport hopes.
“Qualifying always takes on a little bit more significance here, because the circuit is quite narrow and lends itself to defending.
“So the first objective is to have a slightly stronger Saturday, and then that should put us in the mix for another decent haul of points on the Sunday.”
