After being made to fight for it on Sunday morning, Nicolo Bulega obliterated the field in WorldSBK Race 2 at Aragon.
Bulega was untouchable on Sunday afternoon in the final race of the weekend as the Italian led from the start of the race until the chequered flag.
After having to fight for his 21st consecutive win in the Superpole Race, Bulega cruised to his 22nd consecutive win in Race 2.
Joining the Italian rider on the podium at MotorLand Aragon were his teammate, Iker Lecuona, in second place and the Marc VDS rider, Sam Lowes, in third place.
After his poor start in the Superpole Race, Bulega was able to get a better start in Race 2 as he got the holeshot into Turn 1.
On the opening lap, disaster struck for Lorenzo Baldassarri and Xavi Vierge as the Ducati and Yamaha riders collided, with Somkiat Chantra also being impacted by the incident.
At the end of Lap 1, it was Bulega leading from Lecuona, and Sam Lowes, with Alex Lowes in behind in fourth, and Alberto Surra rounding out the top five.
By the end of Lap 3, Bulega had control of the race at the front, as he led the way by 1.3s over his factory Ducati teammate.
The fight at the front did not amount to anything, with the race hitting a calm patch on Lap 7. The most notable fight that was evolving was between Tommy Bridewell and Alvaro Bautista in eighth and ninth.
On Lap 8, Bautista was able to get the better of Bridewell, with the Spaniard passing the British rider and taking eighth place.
The third faller of the race came on Lap 9, as Yari Montella crashed from seventh place, promoting his teammate, Bautista, from eighth to seventh.
There was a change within the top five on Lap 9, as Axel Bassani overtook Surra and the Italian rider made his way into fifth place.
Bridewell dropped back into ninth place on Lap 10, as Garrett Gerloff overtook the British rider and made his way into eighth on the Kawasaki.
After getting passed by Bassani a few laps beforehand, Surra dropped another position on Lap 11 as he was overtaken by Bautista for sixth place.
Surra lost another place a lap later, as the Italian was dropped back to eighth place after Gerloff overtook the Motocorsa Ducati.
Gerloff’s charge continued as on Lap 13, he overtook Bautista, and made his way into sixth place, but Bautista fought back and made his way back ahead of the American.
However, at Turn 1 on Lap 14, Gerloff regained the position as he passed the Barni Ducati on his Kawasaki.
Gaps began to appear throughout the order on Lap 16, as Bulega continued to control the race at the front from Lecuona, and Sam Lowes.
At the end of the final race of the weekend, Bulega crossed the line to take victory once again at MotorLand Aragon.
In second place was Lecuona, who is still on the hunt for his maiden victory in WorldSBK.
Sam Lowes completed a hat-trick of podiums as he finished third once again for the Marc VDS Ducati squad.
The two Bimota riders were inside the top five, with Alex Lowes in fourth place and Bassani in fifth place.
Gerloff ended the race inside the top seven, but missed out on the top five as he finished in sixth, with Bautista crossing the line in eighth.
The Ducatis of Surra and Bridewell featured inside the top ten wth Surra and Bridewell in eighth and ninth place.
Michael van der Mark rounded out the top ten, with Tarran Mackenzie in 11th and the top Yamaha of Remy Gardner in 12th.
Andrea Locatelli and Stefano Manzi missed out on the top ten but scored points with 13th and 14th-place finishes.
Somkiat Chantra scored a point as he finished in 15th place, outside of the points were Bahattin Sofuoglu, Mattia Rato, and Hannes Soomer in 16th, 17th, and 18th.
