Alex Rins believes MotoGP riders without Ducati machinery are often forgotten, as his future on the grid remains unclear.

Rins appears to be one of the riders from the 2026 grid who will not be able to secure a place in MotoGP for the 2027 season.

The Spaniard has spent the last three years racing for the factory Yamaha squad, after previously racing for Suzuki and LCR Honda.

During his premier class career, Rins has claimed six race wins and a further 12 podiums. However, he has not finished inside the top 10 in the championship standings since 2022.

It has already been confirmed that the Spaniard will not remain with Yamaha for 2027, and there have been very few rumours linking him to a ride elsewhere on the grid.

With his future uncertain, the Spaniard recently admitted that riders outside of Ducati and Aprilia’s machinery are often overlooked.

When speaking to GPOne, Rins said, “Last year, if you didn’t have a Ducati, you didn’t stand a chance, and now Aprilia is doing very well.

“Ducati seems to be facing a few more difficulties, but is still competitive. It seems, however, that if you don’t have that bike, people forget about you.

“We can’t work magic; we have the bike we have. It’s been three difficult years for me, but I’m still the same Alex from the past, the one who won races and claimed podiums.”

Alex Rins was left ‘surprised’ by Yamaha’s decision not to re-sign him

Despite previously enjoying success with Suzuki, Rins’ recent struggles appear to have damaged his chances of remaining on the MotoGP grid beyond 2026.

After being informed early in the 2026 season that Yamaha would not retain him for 2027, the Spaniard admitted he was “surprised” by the decision.

“My motivation hasn’t changed,” Rins stated. “Even though it’s not an easy time, ever since I found out I wouldn’t be continuing with Yamaha.

“It’s tough— when I signed the contract, I was still with LCR Honda, and I felt good. They came to me and gave me this opportunity: I saw there was potential.

“With the inline-four, we struggled to push the bike, and I had trouble braking. Then, when we switched to the V4, the feeling was good.

“So, I was surprised because within three races, they had already decided my future. My commitment to them was total. That’s life, but I’ll continue to give it my all.”
