Tom Ingram took a ‘needed’ victory in the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch, brushing aside early season penalties that cost him at Donington.
The reigning Champion climbed from P5 to P1 within the first lap of Race 3 at Brands Hatch Indy and, in typical Ingram fashion, never looked back.
Leaving Round 6 without a victory could have been costly for Ingram’s 2026 title hopes, but the Team Vertu driver ensured such talk was quashed.
Winning also brushed away some of the sour taste of his happenings at Donington, where he was stripped of a regular race win and a Qualifying Race win.
“We kind of needed one,” he told media after the race.
“I feel like I’ve won a few of them. I feel like I’ve already had a couple of wins this year but obviously not been allowed to keep them for various reasons.
“So yeah, I’m waiting for them to come up with something to take it off me this time. I’m sure something will go wrong.”
Tom Ingram looks ahead to his BTCC title defence
The Briton has a knack for collecting points even without winning, but only managed one points-scoring race finish at Donington.
As a result, turning things around at Brands Hatch was imperative. Although things are still not ideal for Ingram, he is hopeful that his season will push on from here.
“We’ve not had the sort of the rub of it so far for the first first two rounds of the season so we’ve been on the back foot.
“And even this weekend you know we’ve been sort of either wrong place wrong time or slightly out of position or just not quite.
“We’re 50 points back already after two race meetings so it’s not an ideal start to the year but I’m sure we can duck it down and get something out of it.”
