Marc Marquez has revealed that he will undergo surgery in Madrid on both his shoulder and foot following his crash during the MotoGP Sprint race at Le Mans.

The reigning champion has endured a difficult start to 2026 after recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during Indonesia last year, where Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi collided with him.

Marquez’s performances in 2026 have yet to see a grand prix victory, though he has delivered two Sprint victories in Brazil and Jerez.

Initially, Marquez was due to have surgery after the Catalonia round, but he will now undergo an operation to correct screws in both his shoulder and to fix his foot.

“That was one of the reasons I was taking it easy this weekend. I knew I could crash at any moment, since, well, it resulted in me breaking my fifth metatarsal,” shared Marquez to DAZN Spain post-race. (via MotoSan)

“I hadn’t told you, but I already had surgery scheduled after Catalonia, for my right shoulder.

“This season I’m having more problems than usual. It was obvious. I tried to convince myself otherwise, but after Jerez, I saw that something wasn’t working, that something wasn’t right.

“We went to the doctors and, well, they could see that after the crash in Indonesia, everything is perfect. But the famous screw that was broken in my shoulder is in a different position.”

Marquez explained further that the screw in his shoulder provided him with a “strange feeling.”

“I had a very strange feeling, because at home I was fine, I’d come here [to MotoGP races], and it would be bad. So I thought I was mentally blocked. 

“But they saw that in the MotoGP position, that screw, which is in a different position, was touching my radial nerve and that’s what makes me fail.

“It makes me inconsistent, it makes me have unexpected crashes. That’s why I was very calm all weekend.

“So, well, we’ll do everything at once. I have to recover well and, from there, try to continue building my future.”
