Honda rider Luca Marini topped the timesheets in the opening MotoGP free practice session at Le Mans.

Marini set the benchmark time of 1.30.857s at the end of the session, two tenths quicker than KTM rider Pedro Acosta.

Honda’s early weekend dominance was the key story as LCR’s Johann Zarco lapped third fastest in front of his home crowd.

VR46 Ducati’s Fabio Di Giannantonio finished as the reference Ducati rider, lapping fourth, ahead of Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez and Yamaha’s Alex Rins.

Alex Marquez claimed seventh on the Gresini, with Ai Ogura and older brother Marc Marquez only a half a tenth behind.

KTM’s Brad Binder rounded off the top 10 positions, though he, Honda’s Joan Mir and stable-mate Enea Bastianinin lapped within a tenth of the South African.

Fermin Aldeguer finished the session in 13th, while the two championship leaders Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin ended the session in 14th and 15th place.

Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo claimed 16th and 17th, ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, followed by Diogo Moreira, Franco Morbidelli and Toprak Razgatlioglu.

To close out proceedings, Jonas Folger lapped last as he began his stand-in duties for Maverick Vinales at Tech3.
