Alex Lowes had shown strong pace at the Hungarian WorldSBK Round before a Race 2 crash ended his weekend at the Balaton Park circuit.

Lowes featured inside the top ten on his Bimota KB998 in Race 1 and the Superpole Race at the Hungarian Round.

The Brit secured sixth and seventh-place finishes in the two races that he completed, but his weekend came to a premature end on Sunday afternoon.

For the final race of the weekend, Lowes started from seventh place on the grid but was pushed wide by Lorenzo Baldassarri and lost multiple positions on the opening lap.

The 35-year-old went on to fight his way back through the order and was battling for a position in the top five as he caught up to Tarran Mackenzie.

However, as he was setting up a pass on his fellow British rider, Lowes clipped the rear of Mackenzie’s Ducati and crashed out of the race.

The incident was his second DNF of the 2026 season and ended his weekend sooner than expected.

After the crash, Lowes told Speedweek: “I was very happy with the Superpole race. We did a good job and even set our fastest lap of the weekend. The second race didn’t go as we had hoped.

“In the feature race, I had a good start and got through the first two corners well, running fourth. Then Baldassarri hit me off the line, so I lost five or six places.”

“We had made a good change to the front, and I could see some other riders go off the track, while I had the bike pretty well under control,” Lowes continued.

“I was following Taz Mackenzie through the chicane at T9 and T10, and I misjudged his speed at the second apex.

“I intended to overtake him in T10, but that completely surprised me. My hand touched the rear of his bike, and I lost the front wheel.”
