Indianapolis Motor Speedway has announced which bands will be playing on stage in the build-up to this year’s Indianapolis 500.
Carb Day, which takes place the Friday before the big race, is filled with a final practice session, a pit stop challenge, the Wienie 500 hot dog vehicle race, and also a large concert at the infield stage in the evening.
This year’s performance will be highlighted by Counting Crows with special guest Switchfoot.
Counting Crows have been one of the top Alternative Rock artists for the past 30 years, with more than 20 million records sold and recently ranking eighth on Billboard’s Greatest All Time Adult Alternative Artists list.
Switchfoot also performs in the alternative rock genre, and has sold more than 10 million records through 13 album releases.
In 2009, Switchfoot released Hello Hurricane which earned the band a Grammy Award.
“Miller Lite Carb Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer,” IndyCar and IMS President Doug Boles said.
“From 33 drivers speeding around the track in the final ‘500’ practice to the Wienie 500 and Pit Stop Challenge, there is no shortage of on-track action leading into a legendary rock concert in Turn 3.
“It’s a day like no other at the Racing Capital of the World, and many of our fans take the day off work to spend it at IMS, a tradition we can all celebrate.”
Carb Day admission starts at $50 and gives fans access to the full day’s worth of activities at one of most recognizable venues in motorsport.
This year’s Carb Day events will be held on Friday, May 22, with the 110th Indianapolis 500 taking place two days later on May 24.
