Pedro Acosta continued his fine early-season form as he posted the best time in the opening Brazilian MotoGP practice session.

The series leader has already admitted he will not be in the title fight, but continued to show the  potential aboard the KTM by setting the best time in the first session at the Goiania circuit.

MotoGP’s first practice in Brazil since 2004 was initially delayed due to heavy rainfall, with all competitive sessions pushed back by an hour.

While the sun eventually broke through, the track conditions were still treacherous and saw the riders head out on track with wet tyres.

Acosta waited until his final run to set his best time, with his 1:26.688s enough to top the timesheets at the end of practice.

With the final lap of the session, Jack Miller moved up into second place on the slick tyres, 0.087s behind Acosta’s best time.

Marco Bezzecchi completed the top three after he also found an improvement on his final run, with long-time session leader Marc Marquez demoted to fourth.

Franco Morbidelli rounded out the top five, while Maverick Vinales was sixth at the chequered flag.

Jorge Martin completed his first practice in seventh ahead of Fermin Aldeguer, who was eighth on his return after a broken femur.

Francesco Bagnaia ended the opening practice in ninth as Alex Marquez rounded out the top 10.

Enea Bastianini opened his Brazil weekend by taking 11th ahead of compatriot Fabio Di Giannantonio in 12th and Brad Binder in 13th.

Alex Rins’ best lap time was enough for 14th, while Johann Zarco led the Honda charge in 15th.

Rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu was 16th at the flag, with Ai Ogura taking 17th after both Trackhouse riders struggled in the rain.

Home favourite Diogo Moreira finished 18th ahead of both factory Hondas, with Joan Mir leading Luca Marini in 19th and 20th respectively.

Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez took the flag in 21st, while Fabio Quartararo completed the standings in 22nd.
