Formula E heads to Spain for a race for the first time in five years as Madrid joins the calendar for Round 6 of Season 12.
The all-electric series will race at the historic Circuito del Jarama, a venue steeped in motorsport heritage and now ready for a new chapter.
The 3.9km circuit features 14 turns and notable elevation changes, and drivers sampled the track during pre-season testing and praised its layout.
Organisers have since worked to prepare the venue for racing, setting the stage for a competitive debut.
A key talking point this weekend is the return of Pit Boost, the system making its first appearance at a single-header event, adding a strategic twist.
Drivers must make a mandatory 30-second stop to gain a 10% energy increase.
Combined with Attack Mode, it should create varied strategies and more unpredictable racing.
The Formula E season so far
Unpredictability has already defined the season; five races have produced five different winners from four teams.
Jake Dennis opened the campaign with victory in Brazil, while Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans followed with standout drives.
Pascal Wehrlein leads the standings heading into Madrid, with António Félix da Costa also joining the winners’ list.
Several big names are still chasing a first win of the season. The competition remains tight, and Madrid could easily produce another new victor.
There is also strong local interest; rookie driver Pepe Martí will race on home soil for the first time in Formula E.
The Spaniard has already scored points in his debut season and arrives with momentum after an impressive showing in Jeddah.
The Formula E rookie test takes place in Madrid
The action does not stop after Saturday’s race; the annual Rookie Test takes place on Sunday, giving emerging talent a full day in the GEN3 Evo car.
All 10 teams will field two drivers, continuing a pathway that has helped launch several Formula E careers.
Among those set to take part are Freddie Slater and Callum Voisin for Andretti, Théo Pourchaire and Joshua Duerksen for Citroen Racing, Bianca Bustamante and Cian Shields for Cupra Kiro, and Daniil Kvyat alongside Nikita Bedrin at DS Penske.
Envision runs Ella Lloyd and Zak O’Sullivan, while Jaguar fields Juju Noda and Bryce Aron.
Hugh Barter and Richard Verschoor represent Lola Yamaha ABT, Kush Maini and Théophile Naël drive for Mahindra Racing, and Nissan selected Abbi Pulling and Victor Martins.
Porsche completes the line-up with Elia Weiss and Ayhancan Gueven.
With a new circuit, evolving strategies and a wide-open title fight, Madrid’s debut promises to deliver plenty of intrigue.
