IndyCar’s busy Friday continued with a single-car, two-lap qualifying session around Phoenix Raceway’s one-mile oval.

Taking his first ever IndyCar pole was David Malukas, who put his #12 Team Penske Chevy on top with a set of laps averaging 175.383 MPH.

Josef Newgarden set the second fast time to make it a Team Penske front row. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing impressed with both Graham Rahal and rookie Mick Schumacher filling out the second row.

Will Power was the only driver to crash, with a sketchy run ending early when he backed his Andretti Global Honda into the Turn 1 wall.

Felix Rosenqvist did not participate in qualifying at all as his Meyer Shank Racing crew did not have time to repair his car after a morning practice crash.

The series’ busy schedule continues as final practice takes place this evening with less than a two-hour break. Saturday’s race will be run at 1:00 PM local time (3:00 PM eastern).
