Long-time team owner Chip Ganassi feels IndyCar is currently in one of the healthiest states he can recall.
Chip Ganassi Racing was founded in 1990 with a single car CART program, and has been involved in America’s top open wheel series ever since.
There have been many challenges throughout the years for the series he loves, but Ganassi feels the current state of the series is one of the best ever.
The legendary owner was asked to talk about the current healthiness of IndyCar considering the recent success of bringing FOX onboard as broadcast partner.
“And Honda, too,” added Ganassi, referring to the engine partner’s renewed commitment. “That was a big question mark looming over everybody’s head last year.
“Yeah, good question. I’m trying to remember. I would say not since back in the CART days, when reunification came. Certainly there haven’t been too many times it’s been this exciting for the sport going forward.
“Obviously with FOX coming on as a partner. When FOX announced they were coming as a partner in the sport, I think I said that this is one of the top three or four things in my lifetime in IndyCar racing as a pinnacle of a moment.
“Yeah, I’m not sure. Maybe when live TV came in or something. I don’t know [smiling]. It’s big. It’s big.”
Ganassi’s view of the series is potentially influenced by the success he’s personally seen in recent years, particularly coming from his star driver Alex Palou.
Four championships in five seasons does nothing but help bring more interest and sponsorships into one’s program.
But the 67-year-old has been around the series for a long time, and certainly is able to see the wider view as well.
“I think we’re poised again for another growth spurt this year,” he added.
