Pierre Gasly has become the first active Formula 1 driver to invest in an Moto GP, buying a stake in the KTM Tech3 team ahead of the new season.
Liberty Media acquired MotoGP in 2025, and aims to promote via the same model that elevated F1 to new heights following its purchase in 2017.
Those efforts took a step forward on Friday, with the announcement that Alpine driver Gasly has become the first current F1 driver to part own a MotoGP team.
The team has an existing F1 connection, with former Haas F1 Team Principal Guenther Steiner its Team Principal, the Italian part of a consortium that bought KTM Tech3.
Joining the Frenchman in the venture are US.-based investors David Blitzer and Main Street Advisors.
KTMTech3, formerly a Red Bull owned venture, has Gasly’s complete confidence, and signalled his long term commitment to the enterprise, and to the growth of MotoGP.
“I have a strong conviction in the strength of the Tech3 brand and the long-term growth of the MotoGP sport… I look forward to contributing to further elevating the team’s profile,” Gasly said via a statement.
The new MotoGP season gets underway on the 1st March in Thailand.
