Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has announced that it has brought on two new team members including former IndyCar driver Ryan Briscoe.
Briscoe was employed as a driver coach at PREMA last season, furthering speculation about the newcomer team’s future in American open wheel racing.
As a driver in the series from 2005 to 2015, the Australian won eight races and earned 28 podiums. He will be coaching Graham Rahal, Louis Foster and Mick Schumacher this upcoming season and should provide valuable insight for the drivers.
“Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has the foundation, infrastructure and commitment,” said RLL President Jay Frye.
“We have made multiple, impactful strategic additions this off season, the latest being Ryan [Briscoe] and [experienced race engineer] Mike [Pawlowski] as we position our IndyCar program to compete at a high level on a weekly basis.”
There has been talk as early as the middle point of last season that PREMA could shutter its IndyCar program after its first year in the series.
Speculation on that point has ramped up recently with reports that team co-founder Angelo Rosin and his son and Team Principal Rene Rosin left the Italian outfit earlier this month.
In addition, IndyCar announced Monday that PREMA drivers Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman will not be present for the series’ preseason content days later this week.
Typically each driver with a confirmed seat for the upcoming season is obligated to attend the event.
Drivers are ferried through a series of tasks, including open media sessions, official portrait photos, and television promo filming.
Even drivers that are only participating in the Indianapolis 500 are typically present, making the PREMA driver’s absence very conspicuous.
With the first event of the 2026 IndyCar season set to get underway in less than five weeks, and preseason testing from Phoenix taking place two weeks before that, answers about the future of the team should come soon.
