Owner of the Ed Carpenter Racing IndyCar team Ed Carpenter will race in the Indianapolis 500 once again this upcoming May, confirmed by an NTT IndyCar Series social media post.
Carpenter will climb behind the wheel of the #33 entry and look to take his first victory in his 23rd attempt at the great race.
ECR is fielding two full-time entries to the 2026 season, with Christian Rasmussen and Alexander Rossi returning to their respective cars this year.
The team will add a third entry exclusively for the Indy 500, giving the team’s owner a chance to mix it up on track with the drivers he employs.
Carpenter has raced in every Indy 500 since 2004, making him one of the most tenured drivers in the field of 33.
Over half of those attempts have come while he is driving for his own team, meaning he has had to juggle owner and driver duties quite often.
The 44-year-old has finished on the podium just once in his previous 22 attempts, crossing the line second in 2018.
He has secured three pole awards, however, and started from the front row five times.
Carpenter transitioned from a full time driver role to a part time schedule in 2014, opting to focus on oval racing while running his race team.
He pared his workload down further in 2025 by opting to climb behind the wheel only for the biggest race of the year, a format he is continuing this season.
The 110th Indianapolis 500 is the seventh race of the 2026 season, and takes place on Sunday, May 24.
