Marco Bezzecchi led every lap of the Portimao MotoGP race as he cruised to a dominant victory over Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta.
The Italian wrapped up his second win of the 2025 season and virtually sealed third place in the championship after converting his pole position into a race victory.
Bezzecchi made the most of his advantage from pole, as he got the launch and held onto his lead into Turn 1.
Pedro Acosta also started well from second on the grid and maintained his position, while Sprint winner Alex Marquez got the launch to take third ahead of Fabio Quartararo.
Franco Morbidelli made an audacious move at Turn 5 cut back across and made contact with the rear of Pol Espargaro’s Tech3 KTM, which saw the end of the Italian’s race on the first lap.
At the front, Marquez fired his Gresini past Acosta at Turn 1 after getting the run on the KTM down the main straight – with the 2025 vice-champion taking second.
Francesco Bagnaia also made his way past Fabio Quartararo for fourth, making the same move as Marquez down at the first corner.
As the race fell into a lull at the midway point, Bagnaia crashed out of fourth position, which promoted Fermin Aldeguer into fifth after the Spaniard made an aggressive move on Brad Binder one lap earlier.
The battle in the late stages proved to be for second place as Marquez’s front tyre degraded, but it was too little too late for Acosta to produce a strong challenge.
Out front, Bezzecchi crossed the line to earn his second win of the season in dominant fashion, taking the flag with a 2.583s advantage.
Marquez held on for second place, while Acosta had to settle for the final spot on the podium in third.
Aldeguer was a distant fourth over the line, as Brad Binder rounded out the top five.
Quartararo battled to sixth at the flag, while Ai Ogura produced a penultimate lap overtake on Johann Zarco to take seventh. Fabio Di Giannantonio completed his weekend in ninth.
Despite making contact with Morbidelli on lap one – which saw the VR46 Ducati rider exit the race – Espargaro crossed the line to complete the top 10.
Luca Marini earned 11th for Honda, while Jack Miller led fellow Yamaha rider Alex Rins over the line in 13th.
Miguel Oliveira took the flag in his final home race in 14th, while future WorldSBK rival Nicolo Bulega completed his MotoGP debut inside the points in 15th.
Lorenzo Savadori crossed the line in 16th ahead of Somkiat Chantra in 17th. Enea Bastianini had a technical issue early in the race, but rejoined a lap down and completed the finishers in 18th.
Joan Mir suffered his second technical problem of the weekend and retired from the race, while both Bagnaia and Morbidelli failed to see the finish due to crashes.
