Formula E was back on track for Valencia pre-season testing, with Pascal Wehrlein topping the times on the opening day with a 1:21.714s.

The session started with cars across the field making their way out on the track, and Wehrlein taking an early lead on the timing sheets.

Sebastien Buemi was the only driver in the field who wasn’t able to make his way out of the garages, a brake issue keeping him stationary.

Lucas Di Grassi brought out the first yellow flag of the session; the Lola Yamaha ABT driver stopped on the track. Luckily, he was able to get himself moving again.

However, the session was brought to a brief halt when Taylor Barnard lost the brakes into Turn 12, ran through the gravel, and came to a stop, bringing out the first red flag.

Pepe Marti, one of the Season 12 rookies, had his first outing in FE machinery. The Spaniard settled in quickly and ended the day three tenths behind team-mate Dan Ticktum.

Felipe Drugovich followed just a place ahead of Marti. The Andretti driver is new to Valencia and embarking on his maiden full-time season in the sport.

In the final 30 minutes of the session, DS Penske had Barnard’s car ready to go back out.

The Briton got a chance to have some much-needed track time. Barnard ended the session in 15th with a time of 1:22.740s.

Last year’s FE Champion, Oliver Rowland, ended the session in fifth. The Nissan driver was putting in a strong showing out of the gate.

However, Wehrlein was at the front for the majority of the session, his times leading the field.

Nyck de Vries equally put his best foot forward, closing out the session second with Jake Dennis close behind, just 0.052s splitting the duo.
