Cadillac’s Jack Aitken topped both IMSA daytime practice sessions for Petit Le Mans, the IMSA Sportscar Championship season finale.
He set a 1:11.260 in the opening practice session, then improved on it in the second, with a 1:10.882, driving the #31 Action Express Cadillac.
In the opening session, fellow Briton Tom Blomqvist, behind the wheel of the #60 MSR Acura, was second fastest, over four tenths slower. Third fastest was Ross Gunn in the #23 Aston Martin THOR Valkyrie.
In the second session, Matt Campbell was second fastest, in the #6 Porsche 963, 0.293 off Aitken. Third was #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac’s Filipe Albuquerque.
I”t’s been a good start for the 31 Whelen Cadillac, carrying over from our victory at Indianapolis,” said Aitken after the second session.
“We had a productive couple of days of testing here in early September, and look to carry this form into qualifying tomorrow.”
LMP2, GTD Pro, and GTD
Looking at LMP2, in the opening session, Dane Cameron was quickest in the #99 AO Racing Oreca, with a 1:12.859. Next up was Tom Dillmann, in the #43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca, followed by Sebastien Bourdais in the #8 Tower Motorsports car.
In the second session, the order changed entirely. Alec Quinn was quickest in the #04 Crowdstrike by APR Oreca, setting a 1:13.074. He was followed by Hunter McElrea in the #11 TDS Racing Oreca, with Oli Jarvis third in the #18 Era Motorsport Oreca.
GTD Pro was led by Dan Harper in the opening session, with the #48 Paul Miller Racing BMW driver reeling off a 1:19.615. Second fastest was Aaron Telitz in the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus, just a couple of hundredths slower than Harper.
Third fastest in class was Neil Verhagen, in the #1 Paul Miller BMW, the sister car to Harper’s.
And, in the second session, Telitz was quickest, with a 1:19.180, a good half second faster than his opening session time. Second was Sebastian Priaulx in the #64 Ford Mustang GT3, while Albert Costa was third fastest in the #81 DragonSpeed Ferrari.
Finally, in GTD, Philip Ellis topped the first session in the #57 Winward Racing Mercedes. He set a 1:19.638 to go quickest. Second fastest was Kenton Koch, in the #023 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari, while third was Ferrari factory driver Alessandro Pier Guidi, in the #21 AF Corse Ferrari.
In the second session, Lornerz Patrese topped the GTD times, with a 1:19.077 in the #47 Cetilar Racing Ferrari. Second was Koch, while third was Roberto Agostini in the #021 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari.
